Last night I attended a Glenorchy City Council citizenship ceremony and addressed the candidates for citizenship. I congratulate our new citizens on becoming Australians and thank them for choosing to call Australia – and Tasmania in particular – home.
I am so proud to live in a country that embraces ethnic and cultural diversity. With a quarter of Australians being born overseas and almost half having a parent born overseas, we are possibly the most culturally diverse nation in the world. This is one of Australia’s many strengths and something we should continue to celebrate.
