This morning I had a meeting with the lovely Kath Shearer and Di Carter from Dementia Friendly Tasmania Inc. who updated me on some of the organisation’s recent activities.
Amongst other projects they have held three Self Care and Wellbeing Workshops, funded by a Kingborough Council Community grant of $3000, in Middleton, Alonnah and Snug.
The organisation also received a $5,000 Volunteer grant thanks to Julie Collins MP. This money was used for governance training for board members and volunteers, and in the development of policies and a recruitment strategy for the organisation—leading to a firmer foundation to assist in growing the organisation.
Creating a dementia-friendly community is essential to ensure that people with dementia are valued and respected members of our community.
Thank you for your tireless work in this area Di and Kath.
